A Moment of Moonlit Medicine

In the grand apartment block
The penthouse lights did dim,
The moonlit night awoke again
His glass broke at the rim.

Against the marble clanking loud
The shattering shards did ring
Like a jilted lover’s broken heart
Did darkness with them bring.

He swore aloud upon the sound
That cut his stupor short,
His brooding thoughts were torn apart
As with the silence that he sought.

On the street below, a mongrel howled
Our hero stopped to think,
Decidedly the lights came on
And he poured another drink.
