After that, his father, who was in a transferable job, shifted to Bilaspur (Chattisgarh) with the family and he continued his secondary education form there. Immediately after school, he went to IIT Kharagpur for his graduation. After graduating from IIT K, he joined Tata Motors Ltd and was sent to Pune for training.
Gurpreet stayed in Pune for three months was then selected for the sales division and sent to Jaipur where his sint lasted another six months. What followed was a training session, again at Bhubhaneshwar, followed by final placement at the Lucknow office but posted in Bareilly (U.P.). After working for one year at Bareilly, he found his life partner and had a love marriage shortly afterward. Soon after his first anniversary, he was selected for the postgraduate program in management at IIM Lucknow and joined the institute’s 21st batch.
Gurpreet is a fan of rock music. His favourite bands are Metallica, Iron Maiden, Jon Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, and Def Leopard. He enjoys playing Table Tennis and Bridge. A speed buff, he gets a thrill out of driving fast. Coming across as a humble individual, he does tend to get impulsive at times. A believer in trusting his instincts, he justifies many decisions on gut-feel and finds that this rarely fails him. His habits are deeply engraved and he has settled into a pattern of life he finds cumbersome to break out of. Being an erstwhile smoker, he found it tough to quit smoking. However, when he finally coerced himself into quitting, his faith in his abilities was renewed and he recognised that with the right amount of will power, one can achieve the seemingly impossible.
